Book of Creation

Have you heard of Book of Creation? It's a new publication that showcases artists worldwide. They just released their 2nd issue and included my work in it.

YOW!!

Here's a link to see more about it. The book is cool - full of many wonderful artists.

Here's a quote from the book that supposedly came from me. It's about trends. I'm not really sure what it says since I don't speak French. I barely speak English.

I think it says this:

I like to apply rich color to complex compositions inspired by art nouveau and other styles. I love to inject the illusion of reality into fantasy. I also love to add a strong narration to my work and I'm interested in other artists who do the same.

Hero's Guide

This is what I've been working on (in my spare time) the last six months. I'm illustrating this novel for tweeners. It's a cool story written by Christopher Healy. It's been a blast. It will be released next May. I can't wait to let you all experience the story and illustrations. The characters are all so well written and there's a lot of humor, making it very fun for me, as the artist, to work on.

In addition to the four characters and dragon on the front cover, the back cover has four different characters, a castle, a giant and a witch. I started looking around at other book covers recently. Even the most popular books have pretty simple covers. This is quite possibly the most figures EVER assembled on the cover of one book. Lucky for me I love drawing these guys!

Here's the Good Reads link.

Also, the author writes a cool blog about grown ups who like childish things. Chekkit here.

Oh, and one of my favorite things about this book is that the princesses are just as, if not more, heroic than the princes. I love a good, strong female character!

Jabberwocky Cinematic

Jabberwocky - Game Cinematic (unreleased)

This is a cinematic for a video game that I pitched at the studio I used to work for. It was fun coming up with the characters and story. Unfortunately the game has been shelved. I have been hesitant to post this, but it's all over the web now so I may as well, right? Perhaps some day it will see the light of day again. I hope it will. I loved working on it.

League of Legends Champions

This is just a work in progress. I may get to the color. Someday. After the other 70 billion things are off my plate.

Nevermind. I won't.

Unslakeable Process

These are the sketches I provided to the art director for The Unslakeable. This lover of dark magic didn't have nearly enough melted skin, so I had to fix that for the final.

D&D Project

ELF ZOMBIE! Pure brilliance!! This is a commissioned piece for a Dungeons & Dragons article. It's called The Unslakeable. She has been using dark magic and evidently it's bad for her complexion; it makes her skin melt away.

If you think about it, there are some similarities between elves and zombies. Elves are immortal. Zombies can't die because they're already dead. Also, both are overrepresented at Comic Con.

Anyway, we can't always have this kind of hybrid fantasy creature, so I need to know....zombies or elves? Which is cooler?

You can read the article here.

Old Skool

I have been doing tons of cool stuff lately, but, unfortunately, I can't post any of it on here while it's still in the production phase. Therefore, most of what I post is old. It's fun to dig it back up and see what my brain was coming up with years ago. Like this. It's one of the last pencil drawings I did before I crossed over to the dark (digital) side.

Ice Rig

Another idea from the todd-vault of projects that may or may not ever become realized.

Male Figure

Someone requested more figure drawings. Here you go, MN.

When I drew this dude there were a couple elements that combined to give him a heroic look - the strange lighting on his shoulders and head, as well as the low perspective I drew him from.

I really love figure drawing. I wish I had more time to do it these days.

Everything you ever wanted to know about me can be found here.

But in case that wasn't everything you wanted to know, feel free to ask me via comment. I'll answer when I have time (so if I never answer you can know that I'm ridiculously busy and you can feel bad that I never have free time. Sniff.).

Owl Lady

You might think I forgot to paint her eyes, however, you are wrong. Her eyes are non-functioning (a fancy way to say "blind"), so thank goodness she has her owl-partner, who does her seeing for her. This is especially convenient because owls see much better than humans. It can also fly overhead and give her a bird's eye view of things. The only problem is when the owl flies too far away from her she stumbles around a bit.... : /

(Truth is I did this painting a few months ago and just made up the story to go with it right now. I hesitated to tell such a nerdy story, but then I realized that most people that read this blog are just as nerdy as I am. Right.......? I'm not alone here am I?)

Stupid Cupid

I realize this is a little bit disturbing, but I really wanted to draw a self-portrait for my children for Valentine's Day.

Viking

A friend asked me to draw this for one of his projects. We were going for more of a mythical Viking than a historical Viking.

For living in such a cold climate, you'd think that poor lady would wear more clothing...

My secret weapon

People sometimes wonder why I'm so good at ping pong. Well, now you know. Fear. You'd lose too if you had to face this paddle.

Merry Christmas!

Just having fun messing with some style and design. Probably tried to do too much in one composition and I didn't put nearly enough thought into the composition of the characters, but it was fun.

Something realistic for a change

I love fantasy art, but I also really love to figure draw.

Another Story Idea

This is an idea I have rolling around my brain for a graphic novel.

Nebula

This was for an online graphic novel for a science fiction story I'm working on. It's been on hold for a while.

This is from a personal project that I was once working on. The project has been dead for a while, but seeing this made me wonder if I should revive it. It had a pretty cool story.

Also, I am looking to network with people in the video game and film industry. If you or someone you know is in either of those fields, I'd love to hear from you. You can comment or e-mail me at tod.harris1 [at] gmail.com.

Thanks!

Wind Rider

One nice thing about taking a ridiculously long break from blogging is that I have tons of new material. I'm going to try to be better at posting it.

I'm BAAAAACK

Is anybody still out there???

Meg- The Megalodon

My kids are really into sharks and megalodons right now, so I quickly painted this cute nice little megalodon that is eating a whale for a snack. Looking for a name for the megalodon, Ethan didn't like the name "Snuggles."

Digital Painting Process

Here is a digital painting I did for YouTube that shows my process, kinda. Next time I'll try and do a full screen capture so you can see more of it.
